Is anyone interested in making a thread about their car with all its specs and as they do something eg. New carpets, they add a post to it so people can comment etc.
Works well on another forum I'm on.

Example C210 on other forum

I thought I'd just make onefor my car at first then I thought I'd ask everyone if they also want to make threads about their cars and we can have a dedicated section called "Rides" or something.

We don't have a thread for this kind of thing, we use the garage function instead.

that was a crap example, better one: tuned today 500HP!

i see you can add modifications to garage, but people don't see them.
If it was a thread people would notice and comment on my crap choice of carpets etc.

I for one do like the garage feature, but i normally forget its there to be honest.
I have used the other way, having a section just for members rides and progess builds is a good idea.
As an example you would have your top menu set up with a few different treads, eg, Members cars (for your main normal rides) Project cars (what members are doing and how far they have come with thre progress)
Look at it this way, most ppl who sign up for car forums might not have much done to thre cars, and as time goes on they do things to there cars, they might like to update there tread on there ride to let everyone know what they are doing ect
its a good way to see what others are doing to there cars and there rogress on a build ect

You could even brake down the members car section into groups like, Import cars, Mussell cars, european ect
Basicly its a show off tread
Im not having ago at the system in place, and quite frankly i dont see how one or the other would affect each other if we had both, when i first sign up, it was one of the first things that i noticed, the was no where to post up stuff about my car or projects ect
I think we should give it ago and if you dont like it, we can just delete the topics for good!
If you want someone to get the ball rolling let me know as i have a whole lot of stuff happening to all of my cars and maybe one can be used as an exmaple so other ppl understand the idea of the show off tread.

I dunno how effective it would be, I think the garage setup is a lot easier to read and use, rather than reading a full thread. If i look at the members avatar or information and see a car that is a bit different or might be interested in, then i check out their garage. Maybe it would be possible to add an alert feature to the garage, so when someone updates their car then it sends out a shout in the shoutbox or something like that because i get what you mean about not knowing when someone updates their cars. But really we are such a small club, we always know what is going on with each others cars anyway...

There are plenty of project/build threads here as well, they are just under the specific vehicle forum which makes sense.
