Looking for somewhere that won't charge me full on, to get this rattling/ticking/hissing noise rectified.
Only used to do it when it was cold, after some sideways action on limestone 3/4months ago it started making this noise, it happens only under load.
It's not an exhaust leak or pinging.

It's hard to make this noise stand out above engine revs and clutch fan noise and when I've taken it for test drive with mechanics they say it's normal when IT NEVER USED TO DO IT.
It does my head in every time I drive it, cause I know some thing's wrong but can't find it.

It's more predominant when driving next to concrete barriers which bounce the sound back.

I'm hoping it can be heard on the dyno under load so it can be fixed.

Before I go to dyno I need to finish all the valve clearances, check timing chain stretch, check vacuum hoses and PCV valve.
I hope the above fix it so I don't have to take this further,

I'm going to make a recording of the noise tomorrow.

Thanks :)

I wouldn't go on a dyno man, they are really just a tuning tool. Not much point paying for dyno fees when you can do the exact same thing while driving the car.

Can you hear the noise while stationary? Or is it only while moving?

With the dyno there's no wind noise and drivetrain noise drowning out the hiss and you can put it under load and open the hood and find it.

Only when car is accelerating or under load, more pronounced if I do 4th, 3/4 throttle @ 50km/h

You can put a car under load without driving it, just try to take off with the handbrake up. Loads it up so you can hear it. Don't bother with the dyno, it's just a waste of money for what you want. I highly doubt you'd be happy paying that much ;)
Take it to a decent mechanic and they can diagnose it without.

Actually, take it here:

I worked for the for a year, great group of guys. Boss isn't the best to work for, but the skills the 2 mechanics are fantastic. You won't have any problems with them, and the pricing is fair :)

A good mechanic will be able to pick the sound over wind noise and road noise, no point paying $200 an hour to put it on the dyno.

Upload a clip of the sound, we may be able to help you out?

i taped my phone into the engine bay and it didn't do too bad but the revs block out the sound of the rattle/hiss/tap.
I could clearly hear my loose valve clicking though and my transmission whine while changing down a gear.

i'm going to try with it just in the car or i might have to get a laptop in there with a microphone.

Just take it to a mechanic. It'll be cheaper then breaking laptops

Call Jim tomorrow!!

Take it to a good mechanic then.

Thing is, you're going to pay all that money to use a dyno, with a couple of mechanics who probably won't be that interested in your car because they are tuners and you are using up their valuable tuning time with a mechanical problem that could be solved by an ordinary mechanic. Tuners are not going to be that interested in your car unless it is making them money, and a problem like this is not going to make them money. They will put it on the dyno for 5 minutes, tell you it's normal and then charge you dyno fees as well as labour costs and all the other associated fees.

Take it to Jim, and it wont cost you anything if its nothing. Seriously man, the people here wont be able to tell you fuck all! Les and Keith (the mechanics) have been in the industry for 80 years between them, so if they tell you "its nothing" then its nothing! But they'll also tell you what the noise is and why its doing it.
I dont understand why you ask for our advice then not take it??
