So I have decided to forgo my bodykit in lieu of some engine modifications, boost, ECU, tune, manual conversion, intercooler.

First step on my road to powahhhh! Will be to boost my baby up. To do this I need a boost controller however I don't know EXACTLY what I need.

Electronic seems the way to go however manual seems to be cheaper. What are the pros and cons for each? Also which ones are good and which ones should I avoid? And in saying that what should I $pend???

Also if I boost it up will I need an aftermarket boost gauge? Is this really essential?

If you're not intending on pushing heaps of boost, a manual bleed valve will be the way to go.
Unfortunately with the 34, they use a poxy nylon and ceramic turbo which you shouldn't safely push past 12psi.
To get an accurate boost level readout, an aftermarket boost gauge is a must.
As far as cost is concerned, expect to pay around the $50.00 mark for a bleed valve.

I'm guessing then I need an aftermarket boost gauge with a pod then, not just the upgraded console meter (the one that upgrades the stock boost gauge to read up to 1.4 bar) as it won't have small enough increments to measure something particular like 12psi. (See pic)

If you wanted to keep it as stock as possible, the upgraded console meter would work. You'd just have to set it to 0.8bar which would work.
If you don't want to spend that much money, the aftermarket and pod will suffice nicely.

A guy I know (sorta) is selling an HKS EVC3 (used obviously but in good condition) for ~$200. Good buy?

Thanks, I'm definitely going the Nsimo triple guage cluster when I upgrade.

On boost controller side of things, I bought the HKS EVC3 for $150, pretty decent IMO. Now I just need some mad installation yo!

Hrm seeming as there is a topic for it,

Going to buy Tabs 34 an EBC, curious which ones are your favs :)

I'm looking at a TurboSmart Eboost Street (the small one not the round one) price $445
Or greddy profec b spec 2 $415 (from Germany)
Or the Hybrid HDI Electronic Boost controller with the Gauge $334


I've had experience with the HKS EVC-S but the solenoid makes a clicking sound on boost, which annoyed me with my 34 so i'm steering away from it.

Any opinions would be awesomely helpful :)

Never mind, settled on a Greddy Profec B Spec 2 as it was on sale at kudos for $385 :)
Also bought a 100k service kit + gaskets :)

Same boost controller as me :D I love it, even though I haven't really got to use it properly yet :( Will see after tomorrows tune.
