My stock fan was useless. The car would overheat on high boost all of the time.

Dropped the twin thermos in, and it hasn't cooked once.

Thermos aren't shit. Not vital, but they do the job.
Check if an S13/14/15 or 32/33/34 clutch fan fits on?

One thing you haven't told us Socs, when is the EFI and turbo conversions happening?

Turbo will never happen, i will buy a turbo car instead of turboing this vehicle.
R33 GTS25T Sedan, Series 2 if available.

I had a play with idle and throttle screws on carby today to adjust the idle up a bit cause it was on 500 instead of 650. (I used engine service manual)
But now when crusing at 2k rpm+ or holding the revs higher than 2000 it pops out the exhaust, like mini backfires from richness.
I'd normally be fine with this but when cruising at 2500 in 5th @80km/h, you can feel the car minisurge from it and i don't like that.

I tried adjusting the idle screw when i got home tonight but it hasn't made any difference.

Idles at 650rpm, smooth with no mini backfires.

Anyone have any idea of what to do?

i'm pretty sure the idle screw is the the mixture screw, the other one adjusts how much revs it has at idle.

Also is $110 too much for a K & N filter for my car?
Repco needs to bring from sydney.

There should be a separate mixture screw from the idle.

The best way to tune this is still with a good mechanic and an O2 sensor up the quoit of the car.

The idle is usually adjusted on a carby by a stop plate and an external screw.

There's 2 screws one called throttle screw and another called idle screw.

Throttle screw - When screwed in/out it opens the butterfly to increase and decrease the rpm.
Idle Screw - When screwed in far enough it makes the engine run very rough and the vacuum sucking noise from carby goes quieter. When screwed other way it does nothing.
I've been told by 2 mech's that the carby doesn't respond well to the screws being adjusted and to fix it it needs a clean out. It was suggested to used some carby cleaner on it but I can't do it before sunday.

Tried adjusting with a mate keeping it on 2000rpm and made no difference, rang a mechanic who did my points, condensor and he said retard the timing a bit which didn't do anything. I'm going to go see the mech tomorrow hopefully so i have it all good for the cruise on sunday.

In other news, some nice blue smoke during today/tonight mainly when taking off or a free rev.
I feel a bit of martins anger here when it's just one thing after another!

I seem to have reduced the popping shit so that's better
Used some carby cleaner on it so it's nice n clean now.

Still blowing blue smoke i'm going to put more oil in and i topped up the water, looks like it's eating both.
Ahh skyline never seems to amaze me

How the fuck is the mixture set? Do they jet the carb?

This is the first carb I've heard of with no mix screw. All of my older carby cars had them!

The "Idle" Screw is the mixture screw, but it's stuck on lean.
It wont richen no matter how far you unscrew it.

Thanks to brett, allen and paul for taking a look at my car today.

What was that wire called that was taped up brett? Condensor wire?

I will ring nissan tomorrow to find out the stock jet size for the main barrel.

It was the points wire. Replace it Socs. Its ted.

As i said to you yesterday, these carbys depend on a electric solenoid for idle. If there is no power to it or it is f'd and you try turning the idle mixture screw up to compensate for it, the car will run like shit. I also believe that there is also another power solenoid on the carby for something else, but i cant remember what for. Sometimes there is 3 on some carbys.

I use to muck around with these carbys in my speedway days when i was racing juniors. They can be temperamental and they do need to be tuned right.

If it was me, i would be stripping the carby fully down, cleaning everything out with a air line, put a kit thru it, check the solenoids im on about and reset the mixture screws. Normally (Approx) 2 1/2 turns out from being fully wound in.

If this still has no joy, try another carby. If that makes no difference, then its the leads as i keep saying coz it may be jumping spark. You wont visually see it jumping spark to know that they are f'd.

Its just a process of elimination to determin the problem.

$110 for a k&n pod is not great but is round the price u pay -make sure u get the dimensions of it as some of them are really small. also with old engines pods can mess with ur cold starts etc

i know with some of the old carb engines there is a switch u can pull for winter/summer (basically just lets more/less air in) might be worth looking into

Cut a hole in the bonnet and have the filter hanging out. Best cold air intake in the club ;)

Rang nissan
Jet Size is 200 vs 220?(i think) i have in there currently.

Got prices for polishing of rocker cover and chroming of air filter setup and heatshield under carby

Vinci chrome: $260 (everything)
Refleks Metal Polishing: $100-120 (rocker cover only)

Vinci will send rocker cover to refleks to get it done i think i will deal with refleks directly.

Tyres.

Currently 195/60 R14
on 5.5x14.

Plenty of sidewall flex.

If i put the same tyres on 8x14, would it theoretically give me better handling?
